It takes money to make money, and you start off small. Those new workers and their families buy more goods in those towns, so you can now sell more goods there. In the Kalypso Trading Games, the towns' populations only grow when more production businesses are built in them to employ workers. But the larger Trading Empires are built on producing your own goods and selling them with your own ships. Be careful while building up your cash base before investing it, ships are easier to make money with than production businesses. Once you own production businesses your daily fixed costs become a lot larger.ĭifferent games can start you off with not much wealth or with several ships or more. The problem is that building and owning production businesses requires a lot of capital (cash) to invest, and it is easy to lose money if you are not careful and try to rush the buildup process, but it can be more profitable since you now have your own sources of production and get more of the profit for yourself. But you will soon find the limited amounts being produced and sold in a town to be inadequate for your needs to sell to other towns. It is a lot easier to be just a merchant ship captain. So it takes at least 4 or 5 towns, often 6 or 7 towns, to produce all of the goods in the game. PR4 changed that to 7 out of the 25 goods. In most of their games, any town can only produce 5 out of the 20 or so goods in the game. Later when your have more wealth with a lot of ships is the time to start auto trading. If you just set up some auto trade routes, you tend to miss what is really happening early in the game. Also try to visit many of the towns to become familiar with their Products. The better way to learn any of the Kalypso Trading games (Patrician series, Rise of Venice, and Port Royale series ) is to control your ships manually while moving from town to town buying and selling the goods.
